Tour Description

Join us for a morning of birding at one of the best birding hotspots in Ontario! Fish Point is a fantastic nature reserve that boasts a mix of forested, beach, and marshland habitat perfect for a wide variety of migrating birds looking for a place to forage and refuel. We plan to bird along the forest trails and beaches in search of migratory songbirds such as Blackburnian Warbler, Yellow-rumped Warbler, American Redstart, Palm Warbler, and Scarlet Tanager. This is also a great location and time of year to spot southern specialties that strayed farther north such as, Summer Tanager, White-eyed Vireo, Yellow-throated warbler, and Blue Grosbeak. On mornings with south winds and ideal weather conditions, Fish Point can be a spectacular location to witness Reverse Migration; this is a migration spectacle in which hundreds of songbirds migrate south off of the tip in the morning (instead of north). If you are interested in learning more about this phenomenon, this is the hike for you! Near the end of the tour, we will also drop by the Pelee Island Bird Observatory to check out their banding station and operations. This hike is accessible for those with physical challenges; the trails are well maintained and flat. There is a few hundred meters of sand on the beaches. We will spend the day birding at a slow and relaxed pace, taking frequent stops along the way. There is an outhouse for bathroom breaks at the entrance to the trails. *Notes* -the ferry ride to and from Pelee Island will not be covered by this tour, it is your responsibility to book your own transportation to and from the island. Show up at least 30 minutes before your ferry departure time to ensure a timely departure. -bring your own lunches, snacks, and water (keep hydrated!) -sunscreen, a hat, and rubber boots are mandatory for this tour. -a scope will be provided, but feel free to bring your own!
